Roundabout South Africa Explorer Tour (14 days) - SAEXP14 Day 4 Day 8 Day 12 Notes Day 1: JOHANNESBURG Tour members arrive Johannesburg International Airport where they will be met by the their tour Guide. After clearing customs and immigration we make our way to Pilanesberg National Park. The drive takes approximately 3 hours and we arrive early evening. Bakgatla Camp (Dinner) Day 2: PILANESBERG NATIONAL PARK / SUN CITY After breakfast we visit Sun City and the 'Lost City'. Afternoon ranger escorted game drive in Pilanesberg National Park, which is home to the Big 5. The park is set in a large extinct volcano and houses an excellent variety of mammals and birds. Bakgatla Camp (Dinner & Breakfast) Day 3: PILANESBERG NATIONAL PARK / KIMBERLEY We leave the park and travel via Rustenburg and Orkney continue to Kimberley where we arrive late afternoon for an overnight stay. Kimberley is the diamond capital of the world and is famous for "The Big Hole" which is 1 130 ft. deep and has yielded 14.5 million carats of diamonds. Holiday Inn (Breakfast) Day 4: KIMBERLEY / BEAUFORT WEST Morning visit to the "Big Hole" and the adjoining museum before we continue by road to the Great Karoo town of Beaufort West. The sparse and panorama with interesting mountains is suitable for merino sheep farming and we may see small herds of the famous - springbok". Wagon Wheel Hotel (Breakfast) Day 5: BEAUFORT WEST / CAPE TOWN After breakfast we depart for Cape Town and leave the Great Karoo through a series of scenic mountain passes into the Western Cape and Cape Town where we arrive for a late lunch. . In the afternoon we make our way to the cable car station for a spectacular cable car ride up Table Mountain (weather permitting). After 1 1/2 hours we descend and make our way to our hotel for a 4-night stay. City Lodge Hotel (Breakfast) Day 6: CAPE TOWN Today we drive along the Atlantic Ocean to Cape Point. We stop at the interesting fishing port of Hout Bay before continuing along Chapman’s Peak Drive to the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet. After lunch we return to Cape Town along the Indian Ocean side stopping at the Rhodes Memorial scenically situated against the slopes of Table Mountain. City Lodge Hotel (Breakfast) Day 7: CAPE TOWN This morning we make our way to Tableview to photograph the famous view of Table Mountain. Located on the Atlantic Ocean, the water is icy cold and from here we continue to Stellenbosch. This Cape Dutch town was founded in 1688. After sightseeing we make our way to Kalk Bay and the Brass Bell restaurant for lunch. The restaurant is famous for its seafood and overlooks the Indian Ocean. After lunch we return to Cape Town via Constantia. City Lodge Hotel (Breakfast) Day 8: CAPE TOWN / OUDTSHOORN After breakfast we depart for Sir Lowry's Pass, which will take us to the fruit and wheat growing areas of the Western Cape. We stop at the pretty town of Swellendam before crossing the Grabouw Pass to Barrydale. From here we continue through dry ostrich farming country to Oudtshoorn for an overnight stay. Riempies Estate Hotel (Dinner & Breakfast) Day 9: BLOEMFONTEIN Sleep over. Holiday Inn (Dinner and breakfast) Day 10: SHAKALAND Traditional Zulu Kraal with traditional dances and sleeping in beehive Zulu huts. Shakaland Protea Hotel (Dinner and breakfast). Day 11: KRUGER NATIONAL PARK After breakfast we make our way to the Kruger National Park, which we enter through the Malelane Gate. Overnight at a Rest Camp in the park. Kruger Park (Dinner & Breakfast) Day 12: KRUGER / PANORAMA ROUTE After breakfast we take a game drive up to Orpen Gate where we exit the Kruger on our way to Eco Caves Hotel where we will overnight. Eco Caves Hotel (Dinner & Breakfast) Day 13: PANORAMA ROUTE Travel along the Drakensberg Escarpment incorporating Wonderview, Blyde River Canyon and Bourke's Potholes. Graskop Hotel (Dinner & Breakfast) Day 14: JOHANNESBURG After breakfast we leave for the historic mining town of Pilgrims Rest and after sightseeing drive across the Drakensberg Mountains We continue via the historic town of Lydenburg to Johannesburg International airport where we arrive at +- 17h00.
